Cooking my way into the weekend. What is the reason you eat healthy food? What drives you to pick the greens over the processed food. There is so much evidence proving repeatedly the many benefits of healthy eating. The issue may not be with the individual, but the toxic environment in the western world. It is so easy, so well-advertised, and cheap to eat food with little or no nutritional value. This is the reality. You will never see an advert with an unhealthy person eating unhealthy food.
Many individuals want to eat well but for various reasons it is not possible, from no access, to price, even poor quality of choice on the shelves. Would you change your mind on foods you eat, if you knew how certain foods support brain function, reduce cholesterol, aid bone health, anti-aging, etc? Would you change your mind about the food you eat, such as highly processed and refined foods, disliked by your body?
The first step is looking at the environment, ensuring everyone has access to fresh produce from nuts, seeds, fresh fruit, and vegetables. From where you shop, to what’s in the kitchen, or the pit stops to grab something, the only choice is processed food.
The second step is education. Greens are so nutritious, that they can even downsize the impact of foods such as doughnuts. A good portion of the brain is made up of fat, therefore good fats will enable you to support brain function. Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was more information on the foods we eat? Not forgetting how we eat is as important, we should always be in rest and digest, never fight or flight.
The third step is when you go to the doctor. Just a suggestion to clinics, maybe get the individual to change diet and lifestyle for 3 – 6 months before prescribing (Unless the medication is needed immediately). We may pop the pills a little too fast, as this is what is recommended.
The fourth step, a crucial one, let’s make eating healthy and attractive. Probably starting with TV ads. You know when you sit down after a long day and you are watching TV. The ads that pop up tend to be about processed food.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the art of eating well.
